To allow for more large icons on the screen. Some people may or may not have home audio for example... if they do not the large icon should be hidden or replaced with a large icon choice that is really part of their HAI home automation setup. Such as if they setup an IP camera, then have a large icon take it's place...

+1 For this one, it's confusing for the end user to see icons for audio or door access if he doesn't have them.
